Overview:

The Brooklyn Pumping Station has been a key component of the Melbourne Sewerage Scheme since its construction in the 1960s.  Melbourne Water approached Control Hire as two of the industrial fans responsible for diluting the odours and gases from the wastewater required a one by one disconnection and off-site refurbishment – WITHOUT any interruption to critical operations.

The Challenge:

With the challenge to maintain the current airflow of 7058l/s at 625Pa, Control Hire had to analyse the existing ventilation system, and formulate a bespoke temporary solution using a custom-engineered ventilation system that enabled seamless continual function whilst maintaining critical airflow integrity.

The Solution:

2 x powerful Centrifugal fans in parallel ducted into the current ventilation system with custom made dampers, custom duct framing and 500mm heavy-duty negative pressure flexible ducting to create a bypass enabling the removal of the Centrifugal fans one at a time for refurbishment.

Control Hire’s adaptable, custom-tailored ventilation solution enabled Melbourne Water operations to continue, safe, uninterrupted and hassle-free whilst their main ventilation fans are remediated.
