Overview
During the construction of five multi-storey apartment buildings in Kensington, effective noise management was required to minimise impacts on surrounding residential areas while maintaining critical concrete pumping operations.
Concrete pumps are a significant source of construction noise, particularly on large residential projects where pumping activities can occur for extended periods. The project required a solution that would substantially reduce noise emissions while allowing unrestricted access for pumping equipment and exhaust systems.
Solution
Control Hire designed and installed a custom Concrete Pump Noise Enclosure using its patented Noise Control Wall system.
The enclosure incorporated a fully enclosed roof structure, a dedicated pump port for concrete line access and an integrated exhaust port to allow safe operation of the equipment while maintaining acoustic performance. This enabled the concrete pump to operate efficiently without compromising the integrity of the enclosure.
At the core of the solution was Control Hire’s Noise Control Wall, Australia’s leading temporary noise attenuation system. Unlike traditional barriers that simply reflect sound, the Noise Control Wall absorbs and dissipates noise energy within the panel itself, achieving an industry-leading Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.85 and a Weighted Sound Reduction Index (Rw) of 27 dB
The wall delivers exceptional performance across the frequencies most sensitive to the human ear, helping to significantly reduce noise breakout from construction activities and improve outcomes for both workers and the surrounding community.
