An exclusive club in Rose Bay recently underwent a major refurbishment that transformed the venue into one of Sydney’s busiest waterfront hospitality destinations. The outdoor precinct was developed and now includes alfresco dining, bars, recreational areas and live entertainment spaces designed to attract large crowds throughout the week.
Located within a residential pocket of Sydney’s eastern suburbs, the venue needed an effective way to reduce patron noise travelling into neighbouring properties while maintaining the open atmosphere of the outdoor entertainment area. With increased activity drawing attention from nearby residents and Woollahra Council, managing noise became a key operational priority for the venue.
Control Hire was engaged to supply and their patented Noise Control Wall solution capable of delivering strong noise reduction performance without requiring permanent structural modifications to the site.

Solution
Control Hire provided a 4 metre high Noise Control Wall around the outdoor entertainment area to help reduce noise breakout into surrounding residential areas.
Unlike standard acoustic barriers that mainly block or reflect sound, the Control Hire Noise Control Wall is designed to absorb and trap sound energy within each panel. The system achieves an NRC rating of 0.85, allowing it to significantly reduce sound transmission before it leaves the venue.
The wall system also carries a Weighted Sound Reduction Index of 27 dB and performs particularly well across the frequency ranges most noticeable to the human ear.
Because the system is temporary and modular, the venue was able to install an effective acoustic solution without the delays, approvals and costs associated with permanent construction works. The wall can also be relocated, adjusted or expanded as the venue evolves over time.
The panels are also non combustible, water resistant and UV resistant for long term outdoor use.
In addition to the acoustic benefits, the Noise Control Wall also supports more sustainable site practices. Each panel is manufactured using recycled materials, with approximately 150 recycled 2 litre milk bottles used in every panel. The system is also fully recyclable at the end of its service life.
